I believe (and you will take a good look) that the handle is loose on the shaft where the bracket and small lever are attached. There is a woodruf key on the handle and the shaft can wallow that out and allow the handle to move one degree or so before the shaft turns. That is enough to make the travel short. To check it you must move the handle through its full range while feeling it or looking carefully while moving the lever, as it only slips while near either end. Do not tighten the nut extra tight it will destroy the threads before making a difference. The Keyway should be ground out to the next larger size and the key slot milled or broached to match. Very careful use of a dremel will work if you are good. (or take it to a machine shop. It is a weak point in the linkage. If the lever is not loose, tighten the "on" band 1/4 turn and see if it works, or adjust the center linkage a tiny bit longer if it has a threaded adjustment (I think some do). (one thread) Jim
