I think IH machinery of this era had the serial number at the end of the number on the tag. I don't know if they were starting the serial numbers at something other than 1. Your's is an earlier one, either way.
Earlier 4-row 56's had 50H steel detachable drive chains on the wheels, the later ones used 2050 extended pitch roller chain. When exactly they switched to the roller chain, I'm not sure. They surely changed other things along the way, too.
