I ground the side off the head of a 4 or 5 inch long either a 3/8 or 5/16 bolt . that let it fit up into the valve on an angle and then I was able to straighten the bolt and jam the head in the valve that gave me a handle to pull down on. hope that makes sense? has worked for me many times.
