Hi Charlie, Diesels are the same as gas. White exhaust is low compression, blue is rings and valves, and black to clear exhaust is good. Also look for white crystals in the top of the radiator just under the cap as that would be sodium silicate that someone put in there for a blown head gasket (a temporary fix) and sticky exhaust pipe with antifreeze in the radiator or black floaters in the water is all signs of head or head gasket problems. Any kind of a miss is not good, fuel injector or injector pump or head gasket. The excuse of "needs a new fuel filter", walk away! It's just BS. T_Bone
