The small opening at the inside end of the screen fits into an opening in the touch controll block. During assembly you can feel this go into place and the flange where the 4 bolts hold it to the block is still about 1/8" from the block. You can then feel the screen crush a little as you force it together. I think this is to get a good seal on the cone shape at the inside end. Atleast this is how mine goes together. The previous owner didn't get it right and ruined the screen. I bought a new one from Case IH for $75. That was about 3 years ago. If you repair yours be sure it seals good at the seam and at the far end of the block. It's made of light enough material that it gives a little during installation so be careful it doesn't crack open.
