I don't think you would be building enough pressure to compress the return spring unless you have maladjusted the brake pedals. The book says (if I remember right) half or quarter turn of tension. First thing I would do is go with a free pin, no tension and see if that help. If I was working on it I would jack it up and with engine NOT running, the wheel should turn free, no drag on those dry brakes. Then start it up and they should feel same way. A wet brake like 86 series will have a drag. I have had to do a little altering of the self adjusters on those old 806's due to wear. I can't remember just which part I ground off to get clearance but it works. You could also try getting a feeler gauge in between the disks through those leak off slots in the bottom. Are you sure the self adjusters are in good condition and working properly. They are a real sore spot on those models.
