When you had the shift lever out did you line up the rails all in neutral as the shift lever has probably messed them up so now just the one for 5th is hooked to the lever.Remove the lever again and to help tie the clutch pedal down to remove any binding then line up all the rails in neutral and try again. What looked good to you mite not be just up to snuff.
