I just cleaned out a 1953 cub tank . I found on here( Thanks guys ) where the use of Lye to clean one. I soaked mine twice and it got rib of the rush and varnish . Cheap fix too . I did once I had it clean , dry it and put in a gallon of wd 40 and shake it around to prevent it from flash rusting . Use search function here on cleaning out gas tanks ..
