farmall man, obviously you are inclined to work to get the problem resolved. Not knowing how experienced you are at locating the TDC of the number one plug, I submit the following. Remove the valve cover. Turn the engine until both valves on the cylinder nearest the radiator have clearance on the rocker arms. Then look at the rotor button to determine if the rotor is pointing to the terminal in the distributor cap that has the wire that goes to the front cylinder. If not, remove and rotate the distributor until this occurs. Attempt to start the engine, if it starts all is OK. If it does not start rotate the distributor exactly 180 degrees and start the engine. It should run.
