Well, this thing is coming along... slow as it may be.
I got the tank cleaned out.. there was close to 2 inches of varnish in the bottom. I pressure washed it, then soaked in acetone. After that, it was surprisingly clean... no rust to speak of. I coated it today with RedKote.
While I was working on the tank, it fell from the sawhorses and the fuel return brass T broke off... I've not had any luck finding one, so I'm going to braise the old one back one. I don't think it'll look bad.
I've sand blasted the tank and started filling the pitting on the outside. I'll be sanding and finishing the prep work on it tomorrow.
When I got this thing, I also got 4 boxes full of parts for it which included a total of 3 mags and 3 carbs. The carbs were completely nasty... coats of paint and gunked up like crazy. At first glance, none looked like brass so I didn't worry with it and went on with the carb that was already on the tractor.
WELL... I looked a little closer and noticed that one was brass! I started working on cleaning it up yesterday and finished it today. I even got it put on and adjusted.
Before I swapped the carb out, I had it cranking by hand fairly easy. I had to pull it to get it started this time, and it sounds pretty good to me. The mag is good and hot, and the timing marks are spot on. What can I do to make it easy to crank again???
