If youre wired 6 volts POS ground then YES a 6 volt Pos Grnd Class A VR is correct if youre configured for a VR and its wired right and well grounded and the genny is polarized.....
If you use a jumper wire to dead ground the gennys FLD post and she charges then but NOT otherwise, the VR is bad or the VR isnt well grounded (insure that) or the wires bad/open from FLD on Genny to FLD on the VR.
