Hi Rod,
remove the inspection plate on bottom of clutch housing and check for metal bits. It is difficult to see much as the clutch release bearing is in the way. The clutch release bearing can be moved rearward by removing the pin in the clevis connected to the clutch foot pedal. The PTO shaft is the outer shaft and it goes into splines in the clutch pressure plate. The splines on the pressure plate or the splines on the PTO shaft can wear out and strip giving metal bits in bottom of clutch housing.
