I have a 1946 W6 and fifth gear slips out as soon as there is a laod on it, i.e.- as soon as the clutch is engaged. To travel in 5th, I have to hold it in gear, which is not hard, but can be tricky when trying to negotiate the road. Is this a simple problem or does it require major work. I have a '49 Chevy 3600 which slipped out of high gear, but it turned out to be just a detent ball had slipped out. Could this be similar? I can only think it is this or either the gear is too worn. I don't have a parts manual yet, but will be getting one. The service manual doesn't offer much help(at least the IH manual doesn't). Thanks for your help.
