Yup. Propane soldering torch. cook the oil out, and yes, don't get them too too hot. After you get the oil cooked out, give them a light burneshing with 100 grit sandpaper, then rinse with brake clean or similar.
I did that to my H bands, and my A bands. they now work great. The real trick is to have a bit of patience and do NOT overheat them. Don't be squirmish either. They will catch fire, and they will smoke. All part of the process.
