Serial number indicates a '48 C, but it could be a mutt or frankentractor.
Does it have disk or band brakes? Band brakes means C.
Is there a 2" air gap under the gas tank? No gap means C.
Straight or curved pedal arms? Straight means C.
Can't help you with the engine. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the curve you're talking about. AFAIK the bell housings are all shaped exactly the same on A, B, C, and Supers.
Is it possible that material has been broken out, or otherwise removed?
