Our H with battery ignition and cutout relay would charge every now and then if we whacked the cutout with a screwdriver so I replaced the cutout with a VR and it worked great for about a week. Now it will not charge and will only run until the battery discharges and then quit. The ammeter shows discharge with the ignition on when it isn't running and when the lights are on. I have adjusted the third brush on the generator but have it set as close as I dare (3.2 commutator bars) to the fixed brush. It will charge a little if I push the front contacts of the VR together, but it won't stay charging. Am I on the path to a new VR or is the generator too weak? Thanks for any help! LonM
