Are you sure you're not 180 degrees out of time? bring it up to the timing mark...make sure both the intake and exhaust valves are closed (you'll have to remove the valve cover) the piston will be up where you can look in the spark plug hole and see it, or use baling wire to feel it coming up as you rotate the engine. I'll bet it will start if you do this, and do like the other guys said. Good Luck.
