Farmall H oil bath air filter

I am preparing to change oil in the air filter of my H and would like to clean the cartridge located above the cup,too. However, this cartridge seems to be part of the cannister and apparently can't be removed from the bottom. Is there an efficient way to clean this cartridge without removing all the unit assembly? An IH mechanic told me there was no need to clean this part of the filter since the oil sucked by the vacuum drips back into the cup with dust particles. At first glance the cartridge appears clean still I believe it is a good idea to clean it from time to time. Any ideas? Thanks!
