As this is an electric circuit, I prefer to look at the requirements accordingly. The load or power requirement remains the same as we are not changing the starter. The voltage is changed from 6 to 12 or doubled. Typically a 6 volt starter system will draw 200 amps equating to 1200 watts of power or 1.6 horsepower. If we convert to 12 volts the calculation becomes 1200 = 12 X unknown, which is found by dividing 1200 by 12 resulting in 100 amps for the 12 volt system. Therefore, the current in the 12 volt converted tractor starter is approximately 1/2 the current that would be present in the same starter on a non converted 6 volt system. Both systems would require the same power to drive the system, about 1.2 KW or 1.6 HP or one strong man turning the hand crank at about 885 foot pounds/second. Red, this would be on an H with good compression and the correct oil on a warm day.
