Yeah there are different schools of thought on this but I agree with you. Matter how good you mask and cover sand will make its way into places you don't want it to. However, I did repaint an M for a guy when I was in high school and I blasted the tractor. I don't remember for sure but I don't think I directly blasted the engine very much. That was 30 years ago and that old M is still going strong with no mechanical issues since then. I suppose you could get away with it but I sure wouldn't risk it on such a highly detailed project as this.
