Wardner, The auctioneers had no clue that the grill was off of an MTA. I missed it myself, only recognizing it after a friend told me how much their worth. None of your guesses as to how the grill got dented are correct. I know how it got dented. No doubt He uses a large loader with a boom to lift non-running tractors off his gooseneck trailer(that's what he hauls with). He either wrapped the chain around the pedistal, or the frame towards the front. When the chain tightened, it pinched the grill. Most large auction yards he frequents in this part of the country(Michigan,Ohio) use this method to load non-running tractors. I'm sure the ease of loading and unloading like the "big boys" has rubbed off onto him.
