You don't say if there are any leaks, not flowing but, just damp or wetness at any fittings or gaskets. You also don't say when the filters were last changed . How cold is it? Though I would expect it to start good down to zero without ether or block heaters on if the engine is not worn out. Have you tried a compression test? It sounds like you either have low fuel pressure or low compression both will give gray smoke upon cold start. For batteries you need at least a thousand cca or more if it is cold say below 20 degrees out.
