Ludwig, before you do any testing try cleaning the contacts in the voltage regulator. If these sit unused for any lenght of time they seem to corrode up and then will not make contact well enough to charge. This has been my expierience anyway. I have so many of these older tractors that they very seldom get run and when they are started they almost always need their contacts cleaned.
