If you fill it from the top, just make your own dip stick with any piece of wood or dowel or just use a tape measure. Do this the next time you fill it with the side plug out. Then you never have to pull the side plug again. I made a stick I run to the bottom and marked the level. I also mark the dipstick when I overfill it by 5 gal. When you change it the next time, just check the level as you add each gallon to make a guage on your dip stick.
