You will find that some competitors will take advantage of every loophole or bend every rule almost to the breaking point to gain the upper hand in competition. They know full well the "spirit" of the rules, yet they still do it. It's cheating without technically cheating.
Rule makers try to keep the rules simple, but that leaves them full of loopholes: If one specially-equipped tractor came off the line with 4.00-15 tires, that makes it legal per the rules.
So, it's:
1. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
2. Take your ball and bat and go home.
3. Play it straight, never win or place, but go home with the warm fuzzies knowing that you were a good sport.
