You can pull distributor adapter housing off and put a couple of screwdrivers under and above the the distributor drive to see if the shaft of pump will move up and down. If you feel shaft moving at all pump is shot. Have to be able to determine it is not just the drive lug that is moving of course. I will ask, did you secure the seal by staking or using loctite. I have saved a few for a while that way after it just pushed the seal out. A grooved shaft will let seal leak but not push it out. Notice, the original seals were staked in place.
