Pete is correct. It is common. Another method of "fixing" it is to put it in 5th and rock the tractor violently forward and back by putting force on the rear tires. When a click is herd the starter will be free. To fix it a new style (upgrade) starter drive can be installed. It has no big flat wound spring, and seems to make a good repair. If it is just freed, it will do it again about every 20 starts, then getting more frequent. There is no issue with 12 volts running the 6v starter, ours have been that way for 30 years. Jim
