If you are hard of hearing already, you will continue to get worse. The only difference is if you are hard of hearing, the engine seems quieter, and you think you don't need hearing protection, WRONG. I am 73, my hearing is headed downhill, but I still use hearing protection to try and slow it down. My hearing started going south when I started driving tractors at age 12, I just didn't notice it until 20-30 years later. F-Dean is the exception and should consider himself lucky. However, I bet if he had a hearing test he would find out differently.
