After thousands of hours on tractors without mufflers (mostly Farmall Ms and F-20s), I have excellent hearing at age 66! I do not believe the low rumble of the old low RPM engines such as Hs, Ms and F-20s can do much damage. The whine of a high RPM engine with a turbo may be different -- I have never driven a tractor newer that 1961!
