cub cadet won't start

I know my battery is weak but has been starting with a jump. But yesterday I left the key in the on position without the engine running for about an hour when I noticed the coil was hot. Sure the battery was drained but it wouldn't start with a jump, it wouldn't even click. Have I burned up or damaged something else or do I just need a new battery now? Thanks for the help.
