I would recommend that you have #1 piston on TDC on the compression stroke before you remove the mag. When you install the distributor, the normal factory positon of the rotor for number 1 spark plug is around the 2:00 position. Regardless of where the rotor is pointing, the nearest spark plug wire post on the distributor cap should line up with the rotor at this position then you can wire 3,4,2 clockwise from number 1. Hope this makes sense. I am posting this in my sleep. :(
