If you are going to work it hard you might want to pass, when that old 6 cylinder gets put under load is does burn a lot of fuel - especially compared to the 282 used in the diesels. If you only plan on using it for light duty (haying, chores) its fine, fuel consuption drops off quite a bit. Those engines also tend to start pretty easy in the dead of winter without the need for a block heater.
