Patching a tire?

Help! My 584 has a front tire that was patched by the previous owner. The patch has started leaking, but the tire is in ok shape. Yea, I could go replace it, which is the right way to do it, but...

What creative ways do you folks have for patching a tire? The leak is on an outside sidewall. I was thinking of using this rubber type cement called "shoe goo", and trying to re-adhere the existing patch.
