Hi,
Some photos of the houseboat. It was built in 1964 using a complete Farmall A Tractor as the power plant and drive. Originally, the wheels were connected to shafts which drove paddles mounted on each side of the boat at the rear. It was converted to centre paddles using a car engine and auto transmission in place of the tractor engine but still driving via the tractor gearbox and final drives. It is the oldest catamaran houseboat on the Murray River in Australia built by the company which put the first houseboat hire fleet on the river. So it has some historical value there as well as the Farmall part. The final drives are a weak point as they break the gear teeth when the drive is put into reverse or forward without allowing the paddles to stop. Hundreds of farmall tractors in Australia have been stripped of their final drives because of this. Our boat, which we bought last year, came with 3 spare final drives and 2 gearboxes.

The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel.
