That is exactly why I replace all those square headed bolts with new, hex head bolts. Hex head are plentiful and easy to find. Square head are usually NOT available in the exact sizes needed.

An original square head bolt that is 60 to 70 plus years old, even though it still looks good, is still most likely somewhat compromised in strength, and I would much rather see a brand new hex head bolt on an antique machine than have to be afraid that the original fasteners might fail and create a dangerous situation.
