All the solenoid will do is energize the starter and thats what your switch does now. You have the original starter and there is nothing wrong with them they work in all kinds of weqther just need to be in good repair. All of mine still have the original type bendix dont see any need to change. What is supposed to make the clutch type better. There isnat any valid reason to change to 12v unless you want to wear out things faster as 6v will start them anytime. Seems like instead of fixing things rite just spend more money and go to 12v i guess its hard to get new 1ga cables and have a starter refreshed. 12v seems to sure make replacing Bendix and ring gears a regular repair.
