Gasoline super M tractors with the following serial numbers built at Louisville. 500001 to 504801, and ones built at Farmall works 501 to 28174, were built with the battery box located under the gas tank. Super M tractors with serial numbers higher than above were built with the battery box located under the seat, reguardless of the hydraulic type. They started being built during the month of march 1953. In the fifties IH started offering a under seat battery box and seat package for sale to install on M and SM tractors built previous to the change, if for some reason a customer wanted them installed. So they can be found on any SM.
