Thanks to everyone....too add some closure for my own mind...it was the wrong gear. It fit on the shaft no problem. Whatever it come off of it isnt a 4/5 speed sliding gear for an H!! New gear obtained from ebay, installed and works perfectly. The original owner of the tractor died last summer, I wish I could ask him, i'm sure their was a story...
