If the generator system was causing the issue, it would go dead in hours, not days. Auto stores sell cheap battery testers that use a set of floating balls in a small "turkey baster" affair. This checks specific gravity. The specific gravity of each cell should be the same, and have an actual gravity of 1.150 to 1.175 when fulley charged. The cheap testers will just say one ball floating 1/4th charge, 2 balls floating ....etc. If it is fully charged all balls should float in each cell. Do not get acid on you or clothes!! There is no fixing a bad cell, it will take a new battery. I recommend a 6v with good capacity, and 0gauge cables (nice and fat and with soldered on ends) 6v will crank it just fine. Jim
