I agree with posters below, and also , if starting on closed throttle you would be on the idle circuit which is pretty much a warm engine adjusted speed and mixture. Part throttle gives you some air to work with. One of the things I never liked on some diesel engines with the inline bosch inj pump is that they have a automatic start circuit so they rev up pretty high when they start. I much prefer to run the throttle myself to control start. I always said if I owned one of them I would eliminate that feature.
