Talked to a person at church who is in the excavation business (water & sewer lines, etc.) and he said in our area the frozen layer starts at 3" and goes down to around 10". He indicated it is pretty solid between those levels. The surface is quite soft and muddy but I was able to fill the calf creep feeders yesterday with a small pick-up. I know we are certainly better off then you folks up north but we have had the coldest temperatures in our region in over 10 years with several days below 0 F.
