We tried heat with no luck. After that, I would just go out ever so often and beat & pry on it. Finally that wonderful "thunk" sound and I had the cover free. At the time I was prying from the front and from the top by way of the slot in which the brake lock resides. The insert between the actual cover and the pin is what finally came free allowing me to remove the cover. I am now working to get the pin freed from the transmission housing & also to get the insert off of the pin. I found the entire area under the cover to be pretty well mud filled and I think the brake lining is pretty well gone. I will have to beat the flange around the periphery of the cover back flat and someway get the insert in properly and then I might need replace a few things. I would appreciate input as to source for brake parts that I may not be able to get from our dealer.
This is a far better day than yesterday, due to the success so far. I do have a few bandages though covering my battle scars. Without the input from The Red and Greg, I would probably have given up & done the unthinkable - take to dealer. Many thanks - I will keep you informed after I whip the next phase.
