F-20 Rear Main

When changing My oil I noticed some pieces of metal in the plug. After Ipulled the oil pan I noticed the main bearing was missing part of the bearing retainer and it was in the bottem of the oil pan. Is this A common thing to happen? Would it hurt any thing to run it through the summer and put a new bearing in in the fall? The tractor is used for light duty only and gets 20 to 40 hours on a year.
