Power steering and hydraulic problems have left me scratching my head and investigating. After installing the new-to-me hydraulic pump, I noticed underneath there were a couple big(3/16" -1/2") holes with nothing in them.
The one that struck me as most odd was on the cover plate for what CIH calls the PTO drive compartment(#18). According to the parts diagram, there's suppose to be a 3/8 MIP plug in it. There wasn't. What I found was no gasket, a nice view of the clutch, 50 years of grease caked inside that cover plate, and a broken grease fitting on a approx. 2" long nipple. Hope the picture helps explain what I'm looking at.
1. What the hell does this grease fitting go to? 2. Why is there grease around the clutch?
