Having a problem with a 464 transmission (bought tractor new in 1977). Started a few days ago when pulling a hay wagon. When "letting out" the clutch (especially in 3rd or 4th gear; hi or lo range; forward or reverse), there is a very loud "chatter". This continues until the tractor gets moving. After tractor is moving, no noise.
Have removed both covers. No broken gears and bearings appear to be OK. When removing the fluid, noticed no metal in the fluid or in the plugs.
Rebuilt the engine about 4 years ago. During the rebuild, removed original clutch/pressure_plate. Installed an "after market" clutch and pressure plate. The clutch pedal seems "somewhat weaker" than when installed. Pedal "free play" is within specs; pedal spring is OK.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. The tractor is a 3 cylinder diesel. Have always used IH fluid.
