From a practical standpoint, my neighbor Ernie has a JD A and B, Farmall H, M and Super M. The two JDs stay warm in the barn all year round while the 3 Farmalls are still in use to this day though in limited capacities. The Super M is used on a feed grinder. The M is used to pull the fertilizer tank in the spring, and the hopper wagons during harvest. The H is used on the grain bin augur because is has much higher RPM then the JDs. The planting, though, is done with a 1978 JD 4240. Harvesting with a 1983 JD 6620 Titan II combine. My 2 Hs are used to pull hopper wagons (one at a time though) and to run the field augur. This is not a modern operation for almost 1,000 acres but it works. Its a mix of what works.
