If your C is magneto ignition, just unhook the cables from the 6 volt battery, hook them up to a 12V battery, start the tractor, then replace the cables to the 6 volt. That way you don't have a 6V to 12V connection to worry about, since they aren't hooked up at the same time. You might be able to jump directly to the starter switch, just unhook the 6V before you do.
