I ran into this same problem a few years back. The starter drive housing that you have in the rebuild unit is for a 560 tractor. The 706 & 806 gas tractor takes a different starter housing. They look the same but if you look very close and do some measuring the shaft and drive is closer to the ring gear in the 706 version when compared to the 560 tractor.
