Place a breather plug in the inlet for the barrel side of the cylinder. Most IHC cylinders used o-ring type fittings. Make sure anything you place in will thread several turns by hand to avoid stripping anything. Breather plugs can be found at most dealerships, TSC's, truck repair shops and some industrial supply outlets. Movement of cylinder rod with the plugs out should tell (air and/or fluid) rod-side port from barrel side.
