Chet, Yes it will work but with some modifications. In went from a gas SM to a SMD...just opposite what you are doing. You will need to get a guage mounting bracket for a SM. The guage brackets are different, mainly because of the bracket that is needed to hold the throttle lever. I don't know about the bracket or pump from the MD. For sure the bracket is different. A good source of information and parts would be Force America located in Humbolt, Iowa. Telephone 800 362 2994 and ask for Derrick in the shop. I did not use the belt driven Char-Lynn pump on the SMD. Instead I used the existing distributor driven hydraulic pump. I installed a flow control and plumbed it so the Charr-Lynn orbitor motor would not be overloaded.
